The Shropshire Cat Club was founded in 1974.

The club was the brainchild of Mrs Anne Millman (prefix : Gemstone), who was a well known breeder of British and Russian Blues.  Other Founder Members were Mrs Sylvia Gibbons (prefix : Richdale) who still breeds Siamese, and Miss Wendy Robson (prefix : Dendonis).

The inaugural meeting was held at Sylvia Gibbons home. Mrs Betty Harrison, a well known judge was also present at that first meeting.  Both Sue and Joy Foster, another well known judge were instrumental in offering advice and help in getting the club up and running.

Mrs A Millman was elected Chairman

Mrs S Gibbons was elected Vice-Chairman and is now our Vice President

Miss W Robson was elected to the positions of both Hon Secretary and Hon Treasurer.

Lady Holt, the wife of Sir John Holt, Conservative MP for Shrewsbury, became the clubs first Patron.

The Clubs first sanction show was held at Bridgenorth Sports and Leisure Centre.

The Club gained Championship status and its first Championship Show was held on the 24th October 1987 in Bingley Hall, Stafford, where it remains today

Today the show is one of the largest on the circuit with a regular entry of over 600 cats and 60 Trade Stands,
